Brief History
Sensei Ron Heck began karate in 1982. He is a 4th degree black belt (Yan Dan) in Isshin Ryu karate, and is a member of the Okinawa Isshin Ryu Karate Association. He began teaching karate in 1987 and in April 1994 opened the Kingwood Karate School at the Kingwood Fire Department in Baptistown, NJ on route 519 south. The school now holds classes at the Kingwood Elementary School on route 519 south.
Sensei Hecks philosophy of teaching is based on the oriental traditions of self-discipline and respect. He teaches his students self-confidence, respect, honor, discipline, self-defense, and karate. His teaching style allows him to teach students of any age from 4 years through adult.
Isshin Ryu karate was established in Okinawa by the late Master Tatsuo Shimabuku in 1953, and is derived from the two Okinawan martial arts of Shorin Ryu and Goju Ryu. Isshin Ryu karate was brought to the United States in the 50's and has become popular worldwide.
Sensei Heck received instructions from Mr. Ray Salapka (7th Dan) who follows the Isshin Ryu system taught by Okinawan Master Angi Uezu (9th Dan). The self-defense techniques in the Kingwood Karate School are adapted from the late Mr. Dale Jenkins (6th Dan).
